Webelos in the Woods cancelled due to potential hazardous weather, safety concerns
As most of you are aware, we had already cancelled the Friday arrival for Webelos in the Woods earlier in the week due to Hurricane Helene-driven weather forecasts. While the forecasts still indicate that Saturday’s weather should be clear, the worst of the storm is scheduled to hit us (and CSD) tonight and tomorrow, and it looks like the potential is great for much of our council area to be hit by several inches of rain and significant wind events over the next 24 hours.
The event team, Camp Ranger and I have been in frequent contact today as we watched the weather develop and were going to wait until we could assess damage at camp tomorrow to make the “Go- No go” call for Saturday, but we’ve decided to go ahead and cancel Webelos in the Woods entirely for this weekend. We know that we have many trees at CSD that have been stressed by the drought, and that there is the potential for many other issues at camp to be caused by this severe weather. We also know that, even if damage at camp is minimal, many of you may face challenges in your area with power, internet, etc. and routes to camp may be compromised at our announced arrival time.
Safety has been and continues to be our top priority, so we’ve made the decision to go ahead and cancel the event tonight. I apologize for any disappointment and inconvenience this may cause. We’re contacting everyone on the participant list we have emails for and will post this on our website and social media sites, but please forward this to any on your contact lists that need this information.
We’ll send out a follow-up email Monday to determine the best way to refund participant fees, etc.
